Tracy Silverman is a U.S.-based electric violinist, composer, educator, and author known for redefining the role of the violin in contemporary music.
He is widely regarded as the world’s foremost concert electric violin soloist and has premiered major concertos written for him by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer John Adams, Terry Riley, Nico Muhly, Roberto Sierra, and others.
A former first violinist with the innovative Turtle Island String Quartet, Tracy is the author of The Strum Bowing Method and The Rhythm String Player, foundational texts for progressive string education.
He has performed worldwide with top orchestras and at iconic venues such as Carnegie Hall, Disney Hall, and the BBC Proms at Royal Albert Hall. Tracy has appeared on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts, A Prairie Home Companion, and CBS Sunday Morning.
His collaborators and mentors include Jean-Luc Ponty, John Adams, Terry Riley, Mark O’Connor, and other pioneers of genre-bending string music.
He is also the founder of The Greater Groove: The Future of Strings podcast and teaches at Belmont University in Nashville, TN.
