Listen to What Our Strum Bowers Have to Say!

I have a group of 7th graders who have taken FIRE to your strum bowing this week and they just keep asking for more! We are still at the basics of doing the ghost notes and feeling the Groovon rhythms. They played a Groovon to uptown funk today and they though they were SO COOL!!! It has been months since I have seen smiles like that with everything going on. You are a genius and I appreciate everything you have done to make this book and method what it is! My students have a renewed fire in them, which is priceless

--Brianne Brown, violinist/educator, former student

“The Strum Bowing Method is a critical part of my sound that I have found to be applicable in countless styles and applications. By creating a link between the technical foundations of guitarists, percussionists, & bowed strings, it enables the modern string player to move freely between comping & melodic playing in a way that hasn’t been explored in any other formal approach to the instrument. This should be considered an essential piece of any contemporary violin, viola, or cello player’s technique.”

Listen to What Our Strum Bowers Have to Say!

I'm about 6 weeks into the program, and believe it's helping me in jams, improv, and listening. I'm at a Suzuki book 4 level classically, not young, and play bluegrass/ folk. Mr. Silverman clearly has taught a lot of students, anticipates needs, and builds skills up slowly. I admit to skipping lessons from time to time when I already have a certain skill, and I laugh at some of the funny phrases he coined. That being said, I have a great deal more confidence at picking out the salient rhythm features of a given tune. Executing said features is another matter. The strum bowing sound is not designed to supercede other techniques of course, but it can be a cool addition to a jam, and is appreciated. For $10 a month, for me it's a good deal.

I just signed up last week even though I’m an absolute beginner!!

This program is so awesome! There are so many things I want to do with violin, which I never had any idea before. Now I think of violin as a multi-functional instrument.

I’m switching from twinkle twinkle to strumming!

Thank you!

Mr. Tracy Silverman has enhanced my playing immensely through his strum bow method. From my lessons with him at Belmont University, i now play with such ease as I understand that each 16th note has a place. It’s incredible what he has done to help the silence stay silent but still feel it within the bow. Strum bowing creates a deeper connection to the violin and music.

--Aria Stiles Fiddle, violinist/educator (Pam Tillis, Lorrie Morgan), former student

“As a multi-genre violinist, Strum Bowing has completely changed my approach to playing and greatly helped my understanding of rhythm and groove. I’ve come to use it regularly on almost every gig in every setting, from country bands to string quartets and solo wedding performances. If you’re a string player looking to expand your understanding of rhythm, Strum Bowing is a MUST!”

--Nick Schafer, violinist/educator, former student

"Strum bowing It is necessary to stay relevant. With modern sounds and a rise in funk music, it just makes sense to have string players producing sounds that the modern ear is familiar with. SB It helps bowings in sheet music be pre-determinded to the "grid" and helps me to keep time even in classic music. I have all of my students learn this, whether it is to subdivide complex written rhythms, or trying to get a player to play in the pocket with a backbeat.

If you want to make a career as a string player, learning this technique is the way to make you sound hip, and not like a stiff rigid classical player... There are so many attempts with players covering modern songs, but missing out on the key thing left out of classical music - the groove. Adding and learning this groove is what can take you from sounding like a 1600's violinist that people would picture in a powdered wig to a violinist of the future."

--Tim Kampen, cellist/composer/educator, former student

“STRUMBOWING has unlocked the world of the groove for me, and everyone I've had a chance to teach it to!

The practices and techniques found in the lessons (like PHYSICALIZING) have allowed me to finally take the rhythms and grooves out of my head and have given me a way to express them cleanly on my fiddle!

Now that STRUMBOWING has me locked into the grid, CHOPPING comes so much easier to me!

Sight-reading rhythms, creating fresh new grooves, jamming with others… all have improved thanks to the concept and study of STRUMBOWING!”

--Jonathan Warren, violinist/educator, Strum Bowing teacher, former student

Strum Bowing is the method we’ve all been waiting for.  Tracy has notated trade secrets of groove widely used but never before broken down into digestible bits licks and sick tricks.  You want to chop?  Strum bowing is the answer.  You want to loop?  Strum bowing is the answer.  You want to play music with other humans?  Strum bowing is the answer.  You want complex rhythms to feel natural?  Strum bowing is the answer.  Upgrade your bow arm and stop trying to reinvent the wheel every song - all the answers you’re looking are right in the Strum Bowing Method.  Swim through the strum bowing River of Suck to reach the other side of magical groove, and your future youest you!

--Andy Reiner, violinist/educator, former student, Strum Bowing teacher

Tracy Silverman is more than an exceptional multi-genre musician; he is also a gifted teacher. With a lighthearted touch, he explains and demonstrates concepts in an accessible yet comprehensive way in his online Strum Bowing Method. The videos are well paced and equally well thought through. I've yet to experience the one-on-one part of the program, though I'm certain it will be a fantastic complement to my playing skills. Kudos, Maestro Silverman!

"Tracy Silverman is very engaging. He clearly explained to my students his Strum Bowing technique and he inspired them to continue exploring the possibilities of contemporary violin playing"

I think your product, teaching approach and method is amazing and is paving the way for violins to become part of the contemporary music conversation. Thank you for being bold to make this difference.

"Tracy Silverman, Thank you! I signed up to your program less than a week ago and I’m a beginner violin student but it offers so much fun stuff to do!"

--Mayumi Harada

"If you want to play violin and have FUN while you are trying, this program is for you! Chopping means less chance of playing the bad notes for prolonged time! I get annoyed by the wrong notes and blame the violin for not giving me the right notes. This method is fun from the day one."

"I did the challenge, won a gift card! So I bought a mug. Thank you! Strumming has been fun - which is unbelievable as a forever beginner, practicing violin have been soul crushing. If I started out this way when I was young instead of infinite nursery rhymes, I would have stuck to the violin. My violin likes it too."
